Virechanam is the medicated purgation therapy that completely cleanses the body of the pitta dosha, and removes toxins from the gastrointestinal tract, liver and gallbladder.

The procedure is carried out by liquefying and smoothening the doshas and bring them to the intestine before the actual treatment is given. On the day of the therapy, virechanam specific drugs are given to the patient to induce bowel movements. It facilitates the elimination of pitta from kidneys, lungs and sweat glands, purifies the blood, and treats and uproots diseases ensuring non recurrence.
