Vandemataram Ramachandra Rao

Vandemataram Ramachandra Rao was a renowned freedom fighter, writer and former MLA.He was a president of the Arya Samaj. Ramachandra Rao got the 'title' Vandemataram following an incident at Osmania University. He was arrested on February 7, 1939, while participating in a satyagraha. The then DGP of Prisons prohibited singing of 'Vandemataram' but he disobeyed. The flogging and his singing of Vandemataram followed each other 24 times. It was Veer Savarkar who gave him the title ``Vandemataram. Ramachandra Rao was so fearless that he could not care the torture given to him by the Moghalai(Nizam) police and sung Vande Mataram in Jail.
