'Siro' meaning 'head' and 'Dhara' means pouring in strean. Herbal oils (Sirodhara), medicated milk (ksheera dhara), and medicated butter milk (thakra dhara) are applied on the forehead. In Sarvangadhara it is applied over whole body. Milk is infused with herbs such as turmeric powder and sandalwood powder.

  • Taila Dhara (Thyla dhara): Oils are used in this type of dhara.
  • Takra Dhara (Thakradhara): Buttermilk is used
  • Kwatha Dhara: Decoctions made from various herbs
  • Dugadha Dhara (Ksheerdhara): Milk is used , in Shirodhara is called dugadha dhara.
  • Jala Dhara: Coconut water or water is used
